A Revolutionary Journey: My Role as Marianne Angelle at Wellfleet Harbor Actors Theatre

Stepping into the role of Marianne Angelle, a fearless Haitian revolutionary, at Wellfleet Harbor Actors Theatre (WHAT) in Cape Cod was a transformative and memorable experience. This opportunity to embody such a pivotal historical figure, combined with the stunning setting of Cape Cod, made this production a truly special chapter in my career.

An Exciting Role in a Historic Setting

Playing Marianne Angelle, a prominent figure in the Haitian Revolution, allowed me to explore the depths of her courage and determination. This role was a profound honor and presented a unique challenge, offering a powerful narrative set against the backdrop of Cape Cod's scenic beauty.

Working with the creative team at WHAT was an absolute delight. Directed by Megan Nussle, the production was brought to life with a visionary approach that made the story resonate deeply. Lauren Gunderson’s powerful play provided a rich foundation for the production, and Megan’s direction helped shape it into a compelling and moving experience.

  • Scenic Designer J. Pizzuti created an evocative set that transported the audience to the era of the Haitian Revolution, immersing them in the world of the play.

  • Costume Designer Carol Sherry provided costumes that were both period-accurate and visually stunning, adding depth to each character’s portrayal.

  • Sound Designer Grace Oberhofer crafted an auditory environment that complemented the action on stage and enriched the overall experience.

Production Stage Manager Katie Scarlett Graves and Assistant Stage Manager Rebecca Berger ensured that every performance ran smoothly, their meticulous attention to detail ensuring the success of the production. Assistant Director BT Hayes also played a vital role, contributing valuable insights that helped bring the play to life.

It was a pleasure to work alongside such talented colleagues. Andréa Bellamore’s portrayal of Charlotte Corday, Hannah Hakim’s interpretation of Marie Antoinette, and Paige O’Connor’s dynamic presence all added to the richness of the production. Their performances and contributions created a vibrant and engaging theatrical experience.
